FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about how OwlGuard works, what we install and what to expect. Don't see your question? Email us or use the quote form.

What areas do you serve?

We're based in Coquitlam and serve the Lower Mainland, including Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Burnaby, New Westminster, Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey, Langley, Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

What types of properties do you work with?

Mainly strata buildings and commercial properties: offices, retail, light industrial and small businesses. If you're not sure we're a fit, send a short description and we'll tell you.

Are you insured and WorkSafeBC registered?

Yes. OwlGuard Technologies Inc. is fully insured and registered with WorkSafeBC.

What warranty do you offer?

Our workmanship is covered for one year from completion. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

How does quoting work?

Fill out the quote form with a short description of the property and what you need. For most projects we book a site walk, then send a written proposal with equipment, cabling and labour listed separately.

Why do you use Ubiquiti UniFi equipment?

UniFi puts cameras, door access and networking in one management system, with no mandatory monthly licence fees for core features. It's reliable, widely supported and easy for your team to use.

Are there monthly fees?

Not for core UniFi features such as local camera recording, app access and door access. You own the equipment. Optional third-party services, such as internet, are separate.

Can you work with our existing equipment?

Often, yes. We assess existing cameras, door hardware and cabling during the site walk and reuse what's in good condition. Where something should be replaced, we explain why.

Can we view cameras and manage doors from a phone?

Yes. UniFi Protect and UniFi Access have apps for phone and desktop, with separate logins for each person you authorize.

How do you handle privacy with cameras?

We aim cameras at common property, avoid views into private units or neighbouring windows, use privacy masks where needed and set up individual logins and a retention period. Strata corporations and businesses in BC should follow PIPA when recording video.

How long does an install take?

It depends on the size of the project. A small camera upgrade can take a day or two, while larger multi-system projects are scheduled in phases. Your proposal includes an expected timeline.

Do you do the electrical work?

We specialize in low-voltage systems: cameras, access control, networking and data cabling. Where a new electrical circuit is needed, it's done by a licensed electrician.

Service-specific questions: security cameras, access control, WiFi and networking, structured cabling and strata buildings.
