Security camera installation for strata and commercial properties

OwlGuard plans and installs Ubiquiti UniFi Protect camera systems for parkades, lobbies, entrances, loading areas and building exteriors. Every camera is placed for a reason, and the system is handed over with footage that's easy to find when you need it.

What we install

  • UniFi Protect cameras: turrets, domes and bullets for indoor and outdoor use
  • Network video recorders (NVRs) sized for your camera count and how long you want to keep footage
  • PoE switching and cabling to power and connect every camera
  • Remote viewing on phone, tablet and desktop through the UniFi Protect app
  • Viewing stations for a concierge desk, office or strata room

Where cameras make the biggest difference

Parkades and gates

Vehicle entry and exit, drive aisles, storage rooms and bike rooms, where many building incidents start.

Lobbies and entrances

Clear views of faces at doors, mailrooms, package areas and elevator lobbies.

Loading and exterior

Loading bays, garbage rooms, perimeter paths and blind corners.

Offices and retail

Front counters, stock rooms, server rooms and after-hours entry points.

Planned for privacy as well as coverage

Cameras in shared buildings affect residents, tenants and neighbours. We aim each camera to cover common property without looking into units or neighbouring windows, apply privacy masks where needed, and recommend signage so people know an area is recorded.

In BC, video recording by strata corporations and businesses falls under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). We set systems up so a sensible camera policy is easy to follow: limited fields of view, a set retention period, and individual logins for the people allowed to view footage.

Replacing an older DVR or analog system

Many buildings still rely on an aging DVR with grainy footage and no remote access. We'll look at the existing cameras and cabling, tell you plainly what can be reused and what should be replaced, and price any rewiring separately so the options are clear.

How a camera project runs

  • Site walk. We review entrances, problem areas, mounting points, cable paths and lighting.
  • Camera plan and proposal. A written scope listing each camera location, the recorder, and labour.
  • Installation and setup. Cameras mounted, cabled, aimed and tuned for day and night.
  • Handoff. App access for the right people, a short walkthrough, and labelled, documented cabling.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How many cameras does our building need?

It depends on the number of entrances, the parkade layout and what you need to see. Most projects start with entrances, parkade gates and lobbies, then add coverage for known problem areas. A site walk lets us map it out camera by camera.

Can we view the cameras remotely?

Yes. UniFi Protect has apps for phone and desktop. Each person, such as a council member, property manager or caretaker, gets their own login, so access can be limited and removed later.

How long is footage kept?

That depends on the number of cameras, resolution, activity and recorder storage. We size the recorder for the retention period you want, for example 30 days, and confirm it at handoff.

Is there a monthly fee?

UniFi Protect has no mandatory monthly licence for local recording and app access. You own the equipment, and the recordings stay on your recorder at the property.

Is the installation covered by a warranty?

Yes. Our workmanship is covered for one year from completion, and the equipment carries the manufacturer's warranty. OwlGuard is fully insured and WorkSafeBC registered.
